Why people use ImageFixer
Built for speed, privacy, and the realities of modern image formats.
100% Private
Every conversion runs locally in your browser. Your photos never travel to a server, so they cannot be intercepted, leaked, or scraped.
Native-speed conversion
WebAssembly-compiled codecs (mozjpeg, libwebp, libavif, libheif) run inside a worker thread, giving you desktop-grade performance.
Every modern format
HEIC, HEIF, AVIF, WebP, JPG, and PNG — supported as both input and output. Convert any to any without juggling tools.
Smart recommendations
ImageFixer reads each image and suggests the best format and quality for the smallest file with no visible loss.
No signup, no limits
Single-image conversion is unlimited and free. No account, no email collection, no usage caps to nag you.
Works after first load
Once the page loads, no internet is required. The codecs run on your device — convert from a plane, a train, or anywhere offline.
Why image format matters more than ever
The image format you choose has a bigger impact than most people realize. A 4 MB JPG saved as a modern AVIF can drop to under 400 KB with no visible difference. The same photo as a HEIC opens natively on an iPhone but breaks on most Windows machines and email clients. Picking the right format is the difference between a page that loads instantly and a page that drains a mobile data plan.
JPG (JPEG)
The universal photo format. Lossy compression, no transparency, supported by literally every device built since 1992. Use JPG when you need maximum compatibility — email attachments, legacy software, print labs.
PNG
Lossless, supports transparency, but produces large files for photographs. Use PNG for screenshots, logos, icons, and any image where pixel-perfect quality and a transparent background matter more than file size.
HEIC / HEIF
Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. Compresses about 50% better than JPG at similar quality. The catch: most non-Apple software cannot open HEIC files, which is why iPhone owners run into HEIC compatibility problems constantly.
WebP
Google's web image format. Smaller than JPG, supports transparency, supported by every modern browser. Excellent for the web; poor for sharing, since native operating systems still treat WebP as an oddity.
AVIF
The newest format on this list and usually the smallest. Often half the size of WebP and a quarter the size of JPG at matching quality. Browser support is now universal, but operating system support is still catching up — keep that in mind before sending an AVIF file by email.
ImageFixer's recommendation engine factors all of this in for you. Drop in an image and we will tell you the best format for the destination — whether that is a website, a social post, an email attachment, or your local photo library.
Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask us about formats, privacy, and how the tool works.
Is ImageFixer really free?
Yes. Single-image conversion is unlimited and free with no signup. The optional Pro upgrade unlocks batch conversion, advanced compression controls, and removes ads — but you never need it for one-at-a-time use.
Are my photos uploaded to your servers?
No. ImageFixer is a fully in-browser tool. Your image is decoded, converted, and re-encoded entirely on your device using WebAssembly. The optimized result never leaves your computer unless you choose to share it.
Why are my iPhone photos in HEIC format?
Apple switched the default iPhone camera format to HEIC starting with iOS 11 because HEIC compresses photos roughly 50% better than JPG. The trade-off is that HEIC is poorly supported outside the Apple ecosystem, which is why so many people end up needing to convert their photos.
Will I lose quality when I convert?
For most use cases, no. At default settings (around 85% quality) the difference between the original and the converted file is invisible to the human eye. If you need pixel-perfect output, choose a lossless format like PNG, or use Pro to fine-tune quality up to 100%.
What is the maximum file size I can convert?
There is no hard limit, but very large files (over 50 MB or extremely high resolutions) depend on how much memory your browser tab has available. If a conversion fails, try closing other tabs or using a desktop browser.
Does ImageFixer work offline?
Yes — once the page has loaded, no further network connection is required. The codecs run on your device, so you can convert images on a plane, a train, or anywhere without internet.
Can I convert HEIC to JPG without uploading?
Yes — that is exactly what ImageFixer does. The HEIC decoder runs in your browser, so the conversion happens locally and your photos stay private.
