Convert HEIC to JPG Free

Instantly convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG. No app needed — processed entirely in your browser, privately.

If you have ever tried to email an iPhone photo to a Windows user only to hear that the file 'won't open,' you have run into HEIC compatibility. HEIC is the format Apple uses by default for camera photos starting with iOS 11. It compresses about 50% smaller than JPG at similar quality, but most software outside the Apple ecosystem cannot read it. Converting HEIC to JPG fixes this — JPG is supported by every operating system, every email client, every web browser, and every photo printing service in existence.

About this conversion

What is HEIC?

HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container. It is Apple's implementation of the HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) standard, which uses HEVC compression to store photos more efficiently than older formats. A HEIC file is typically half the size of an equivalent JPG with the same visual quality. The trade-off is patent licensing: HEVC is encumbered with royalty requirements that have prevented widespread adoption outside Apple devices.

When to convert HEIC to JPG

Convert HEIC to JPG whenever you need a photo to work outside an Apple device. Common situations include sharing photos with friends or family on Windows or Android, attaching photos to emails, uploading to older content management systems, sending images to a print lab, or embedding photos in documents like Word or Google Docs. JPG is the safe default for any audience whose devices you do not control.

Will quality be lost?

At ImageFixer's default 85% quality setting, the difference between the original HEIC and the converted JPG is invisible to the human eye in normal viewing. The conversion is technically lossy because both HEIC and JPG are lossy formats, but the visible quality is preserved. If you need maximum quality, you can override the quality setting up to 100% with a Pro account.

How ImageFixer handles your photos

Your HEIC file is decoded by a WebAssembly build of libheif running directly in your browser tab. The decoded pixel data is then encoded by mozjpeg, also running locally, and the resulting JPG is delivered to you for download. At no point does the photo travel to a server. EXIF data, including timestamps and camera information, is preserved in the output.
